Dr. Lonnie E. Smith (1901 to 1971) was a well-known Houston, TX dentist, an officer in the NAACP Houston branch, and civil rights activist. Dr. Smith played a major role in the landmark case Smith v Allwright which helped black Texas voters obtain the right to vote in the primary elections. The Smith v Allwright case was a major legal victory in history and this victory also an important precedent for the 1954 Brown v Board of Education case.
