Nuestra Historia y Cultura: Mujeres of Houston

Nuestra Historia y Cultura: Mujeres of Houston Online

Celebrate Women’s History Month with us virtually as we honor four incredible Mexican American and Latina women who shaped the Houston we know and love today!

Join our Hispanic Collections Archivists Salima Bowaniya, Mikhaila McCray, and Eli Lira as they present Mujeres of Houston. Attendees will learn about the lives and legacies of Mary (María) Reyna, Janie Tijerina, Lydia Mendoza, and Sarah Cortez. Each of these remarkable women led unique lives and left a lasting impact on our city through their political, social, and professional contributions. We will explore their stories through archival materials from HHRC’s Hispanic Collections, and uncover how their incredible achievements continue to influence Houston today.

This presentation is part of the Nuestra historia y cultura series, dedicated to sharing stories about Mexican American and Latinx history in Houston. Stay tuned for more upcoming presentations in this series!
