About Freeing DETAINED Texas Tour:
Nuestra Palabra: Latinos Having Their Say is proud to present Detained: A boy's journal of survival and resilience by D. Esperanza and Gerardo Iván Morales, a powerful firsthand account of the immigrant detention experience. As a teenager, D. Esperanza was held at the infamous Tornillo Immigration Detention Camp near El Paso during the first Trump administration. In an act of quiet resistance, he smuggled in a journal to document his experience. He is all grown up now, and that notebook has become the foundation for this moving and urgent book.
The Freeing DETAINED Texas Tour is a five-city journey from Austin to El Paso, just miles from where D. Esperanza was once held, bringing this story to audiences across the state. Follow the tour and attend events in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and El Paso.
