This event highlights Dyer’s extraordinary 50+ year aviation career and his lifelong commitment to excellence, mentorship, and community service. From becoming the first Black T-38 Instructor Pilot at Reese Air Force Base to earning the FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, Dyer has paved the way for future aviators and inspired countless individuals across the nation.

About John Dyer 

John Dyer is a U.S. Air Force veteran, instructor pilot, musician, and aviation pioneer whose career spans more than five decades and 21,000 flight hours. A Top Gun Award recipient, he became the first Black T-38 instructor at Reese Air Force Base and later served with the prestigious 89th Airlift Wing, flying missions supporting the U.S. President, Vice President, and senior military leaders. 

He went on to fly for Continental Airlines and FedEx and received the FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award for 50 years of accident-free flying. Dyer also co-founded the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP), advocating for diversity in aviation. He is nominated to the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame.
