Public Poetry Reading Series In-Person

Poetry comes alive the first Saturday of each month at 2 PM with readings performed by a creative mix of artists. Participants are invited to read a piece for Open Mic during featured poets intermission​.

Registration is required for this event.

Free.K, a Houston native, is a versatile professional excelling as a host, writer, spoken word artist, curator, and entrepreneur. She's renowned for her competitive prowess in poetry, winning prestigious titles like Write About Now's 2022 Womxn of the World Festival Representative. Committed to community service, she's involved with No More Victims, supporting children of incarcerated individuals. Through her brand, Poetic Move, she fosters an inclusive creative community. Free.K also expresses societal issues through her fashion designs, amplifying her poetic voice beyond the stage.

 

 

 

Kat Bacani is a writer and educator based in Houston, Texas. She earned her B.A. in English–Creative Writing from the University of Houston and currently teaches Creative Writing in Houston ISD.

Before teaching, Kat served as the Program Associate at Writers in the Schools (WITS), where she helped run summer writing camps, the Houston Youth Poet Laureate program, and after-school programs while also teaching creative writing. She has also been involved with Inprint Houston, Texans for the Arts and Table//Feast Literary Magazine, experiences that deepened her commitment to supporting the literary and arts community in Texas.

Her work centers on storytelling, education, and building creative spaces for young people to find their voice.

 

Juan Fernando Villagómez is a writer from Houston, TX. His fiction has appeared in Texas Monthly, American Short Fiction, The Cincinnati Review, The Masters Review, and Desperate Literature. He holds an MFA in fiction from the New Writers Project at the University of Texas in Austin. He lives with his dog, Abba and two cats, Brick and Ghost.
