2026 Scholar-in-Residence Lecture In-Person

In partnership with Rice University's Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning (CERCL), The African American History Research Center is pleased to present the 2026 Scholar-in-Residence, Will North.

Will North is a cultural worker and community historian based in Houston. Through his writings and artwork, he explores and helps facilitate intergenerational dialogues in shared spaces. His research seeks to build upon the long tradition of African and African diasporic interventions into cultural institutions. Trickster as Builder is an investigation of the Black press with a focus on the strategies Houston's Black community deployed to construct their own institutions in the face of US apartheid.
