Art as Resistance Workshop with Stephanie Gonzalez In-Person
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through the transformative power of art in Art as Resistance, a hands-on workshop led by local artist Stephanie Gonzalez. This workshop explores how art can be a powerful tool for cultural pride, storytelling, and social change. Resistance art has a long tradition across Latin America and Hispanic communities in the United States, inspired by themes of resilience, cultural affirmation, and empowerment.
No artistic experience is necessary! This workshop offers a welcoming, inclusive, and creative space to connect and reflect on how creative expression can challenge injustice, honor identity, and uplift a community.
ABOUT THE ARTIST: STEPHANIE GONZALEZ (b. 1988, Monterrey, Mexico) is a Houston-based multidisciplinary artist whose work explores intuition, metaphysical space, and energetic connection. Influenced by both Mexican and American cultural perspectives, her practice evolved from landscape painting into layered abstraction and mixed media using found and discarded materials. Gonzalez holds a BFA in Interior Design from the Art Institute of Houston and an MFA from Houston Baptist University. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Masur Museum of Art and CICA Museum in South Korea. Her current work investigates spiritual identity, creating geometric and intuitive compositions that reflect interconnectedness and unseen energetic fields.
